Mu Rho Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

In January 1983 . Sorors in the Akron area began to convene and discuss reactivation of the Epsilon Upsilon chapter from the 1960’s to 1970’s. The original charter members were Sorors Ruth A. Travis, Beatrice Neely, Anne Elam and Bowman. The official reinstatement receipt and letter were received from headquarters on December 20, 1983. Epsilon Upsilon Zeta chapter was then notified that the chapter name would have to change due to the length of inactivity and as a result, the original chapter name was re-assigned to another chapter. The chapter was notified via official correspondence from the past Ohio State Director, Soror Evelyn Robinson. On February 6, 1984, Mu Rho Zeta chapter was officially chartered. A reception was held in the home of Soror Jean King on May 6, 1984. Mu Rho Zeta upholds this legacy by, “embracing Finer Womanhood through commitment to maximizing each member’s strength, while continually striving to have a positive impact on our Community and beyond through Scholarship, Service and Sisterly Love.” More information on the Mu Rho Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. can be found at www.murhozeta.com
